Family Worship & Devotion With The Attributes of God

As we walk through the Attributes of God sermon campaign I wanted to provide families with some helps for family worship and discipleship within the home. This is not only needed in this season with the absence of Doxa Kids, but unifies the entire household around the same principles and truths about God. 

What you find below will not be exhaustive but will provide a guide to create conversations for the family. Don’t fall into the trap of believing it needs to be a systematic theological class. Keep it simple and be sensitive to the age of your children. 

Family Worship & Devotion For Younger Kids 

With big theological concepts like the Attributes of God, we can simplify to one truth and principle. For example, as we talk about the uniqueness of God, we can teach kids about how God is the creator of everyone and everything found in the Creation account in Genesis 1. Helping your children understand the truth that God made them and all of creation is a simple way to teach them that there is none like God. 

The Jesus Storybook Bible includes the Creation account and will help your children begin to understand the Uniqueness of God. If you don’t have a copy of the Jesus Storybook Bible, please let us know. We make these available to families to help accomplish mission to make disciples of the generations.

Family Worship & Devotion For Older Kids

PART I

Question

Who is like God? 

Answer 

There is none like Him. God is absolutely unique. 

Scripture

Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? 

Exodus 15:11

Prayer 

God, there is none like you. You are awesome in deeds and wonders. Thank you for making Yourself know to us! Help us to worship You alone. Amen!

PART II

Question 

Why is there none like God? What makes God so unique? 

Answer 

God has revealed Himself in the Scriptures, the Bible, as completely unique; there is none like Him. God is infinite, self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, unchanging, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and sovereign. 

Scripture 

There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. For you are great and do wondrous things;  you alone are God.

Psalm 86:8, 10

Prayer 

God, thank you for giving us Your Word. Your Word helps us to know there is none like You. You are infinite, self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, unchanging, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and sovereign. All of these qualities teach us why there is none like You. Give us faith to trust You and not worship anything, because you alone are God.
