Family Worship & Devotion Week Three
It is our prayer that this family worship and devotion content, in conjunction with the sermon campaign and additional discipleship opportunities for adults, would equip parents to have gospel transformative conversations within the home. One suggestion for incorporating these gospel moments within your weekly routines is to be intentional about making them a part of your routine. For example, if your family always eats a certain meal together, allow this to be the first topic of conversation, or maybe you always have these conversations on the drive to school. We are praying for you as you take on the endeavor of discipling your children and are here for you should you need anything!
The discipleship opportunities that Doxa provides for adults will contribute to your own beholding, obeying and being transformed by the gospel, and therefore will further equip you in the discipleship of your kids. We would encourage you to listen to the previous sermons of the Attributes of God campaign (linked below), participate in a Doxa Community (if you still need to get connect to a DC, email info@doxaop.church), and read through Jen Wilkin’s None Like Him (chapter 3 specifically mirrors this week’s content).

Jesus Storybook Bible
The Beginning: A Perfect Home | Page 18
We have had the opportunity to look at the creation account in the Jesus Storybook Bible to assist in explaining the uniqueness of God and the incomprehensibility of God to younger kids. This week, in looking at the creation account, we have the opportunity to highlight that God, who created everything out of an abundance of life, didn’t need to be created. He has always existed. In creating us, we are dependent on Him and provides us life and all that we need for life, but He is dependent on no one. And in his love and kindness, when we create, we reflect that characteristic of Him.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my should knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139:13-16
Psalm 139:13-16 is a wonderful opportunity to further explain to kids how God, the one who did not need to be created, chose to create us. Since the Bible ultimately isn’t about us and what we do, but rather about God and what he has already done, this is a great passage to highlight God as the creator rather than us as the creation, explaining that we are valuable because God made us.
Prayer
God, thank you for making us. Thank you that because you made us, we are valuable. Amen!

PART I
QUESTION
What does aseity mean?
ANSWER
Aseity means that God is self-existent, independent. He was not created, but has always been and he does not need anything to live.
SCRIPTURE
Which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
1 Timothy 6:15-16
PRAYER
God, thank you that you have always existed and that you can supply us with all we need. Amen!
FAMILY WORSHIP & DEVOTION
PART II
QUESTION
Why does God being self-existent matter?
ANSWER
Because God is self-existent, he has always existed. He needs nothing to continue existing. He is the uncreated one (because he has always existed), but he creates everything. Because he creates everything, he is set apart from us as the owner of all. In his goodness and kindness, and out of an abundance of his life, He chose to create us and allows us to be stewards of creation. It is important that we remember that we are the created ones and not the creator, and that the creator (not the creation) is what deserves our worship!
SCRIPTURE
Worthy are you, Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.
Revelation 4:11
PRAYER
God, thank you for creating us and giving us all that we need to live. Thank you that you are different than us, and help us to remember to worship you instead of the things you give us as gifts. Amen.
