Built On Him
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Matthew 7:24-27
The Christian life does not promise that we will be without trial and tribulation. In fact, it promises the opposite. In Scripture, we see many places that assure us that we will experience hardship—John 16:33, Acts 14:22, the entire book of Job, and many more verses. Even in the parable above, we see that the wise man and the foolish man both experienced the rain coming down, the streams rising and the winds blowing and beating against their house. The only difference between these two men was their foundation. God promises that if our foundation is built upon him, then our house will not fall. Not because we have done anything great, but because he is the Rock that will be stable through the storm. If your foundation feels shaken because of the circumstances surrounding us—COVID-19, job insecurity, your kids being kept home from school for another week, sickness, loneliness and isolation, the list could go on—consider whether your foundation is truly built on the Rock that promises to withstand the storm or on the things of this world that succumb to the pressures of life and fall with a great crash.God,
Prayer
In the midst of an ever-changing world, thank you for being a never-changing God. Help me daily choose to build my life on the Rock rather than on the things of this world that promise security but ultimately fail me when the storms of life come. Thank you for stability in the storms.
