Mission A Community Endeavor
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
John 20:21
For ages, Theologians have described the Gospel as a multifaceted jewel. Turn it and light illuminates a new Gospel truth. “I am sending you,” is one of the most beautiful and glorious Gospel truths. Jesus not only saves us from our sins, but includes us in His Mission. There is another marvelous truth that can easily be lost among even the most mature Christian. Notice the word “you” in John 20:21. Jesus isn’t talking to a person, but a people! Mission is a community endeavor not only for His glory, but our good.
MISSION HAPPENS BEST WITH OTHERS
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
Luke 10:1
Living on mission with others has numerous benefits. A brief survey in the four Gospels and the book of Acts serves as ample evidence. Unfortunately, this happens to be an increasingly difficult concept because the cultural trend is individualism. Additionally, most of us keep a hectic schedule and are overly committed to a lot of different activities. Mission in community creates accountability to steward our lives for the redemptive purposes of God.
A DOXA COMMUNITY IS A…
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18
A Doxa Community serves to aid in accomplishing the mission of the church, “to help every person behold, obey, and be transformed by the Gospel of Jesus.” It is part of the “SCATTER” portion of Doxa’s ministry philosophy. For clarity, it’s important to define what a DC is NOT:
Just a small groups to foster relationships
A body of people who champion social justice initiatives
Theological clubs
Rather, a Doxa Community is a group of people who covenant together to live as a family of disciples on mission in Clay County.
