A Friend For 2024
Dear Doxa,
Greetings to you! I hope you were able to enjoy celebrating the birth of our Savior with your loved ones. I am writing just days prior to the start of a new year. Typically, with the beginning of a new year, goals, habits, and aspirations can be found accompanying the start of the year. Perhaps you have already engaged in a bit of preparation and made plans. I commend this! It’s a good thing to seek improvement and betterment, especially in matters of godliness and holiness. As you know, the very source for our ongoing growth and sanctification is the Scriptures.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 Peter 3:18
Have you considered what your habit and goal for reading the Scriptures will be? If not, I’d like to introduce you to a friend who will be of great help in developing a habit and direction for reading the Scriptures as you enter 2024.
Let me introduce you to Robert Murray M’Cheyne. He is no longer with us. He was a minister in the Church of Scotland and went to glory on March 25, 1843. He left us with an incredibly helpful reading plan.
The M’Cheyne Bible Reading Bible is a classic. M’Cheyne created a reading system within his plan, which features four different readings for personal and family use. Each day includes two passages from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, and one from the Psalms or the Gospels. In a year, one will have read the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice.
I have provided some help for those who might be interested in M’Cheyne’s Reading Plan. First, you will find a PDF that details the daily selected passages of Scriptures. Additionally, I’ve linked a podcast that covers those selected daily passage readings.
My hope and prayer are for many, if not all of you, to participate in the M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan. This will perhaps supply the body of our fellowship with another opportunity for unity and mutual edification as we traverse the same trial throughout the course of 2024. May the Spirit open the eyes of our hearts so that we might be taught to walk in the ways of the Lord with greater spiritual zeal and holiness unto the glory of God!
Soli Deo Gloria,
PJ
