New City Catechism

We are so thankful, excited, and humbled by the opportunity to not only have a space to gather physically each week, but also have the opportunity to launch our gatherings for preschool and elementary kids.

In establishing gatherings for kids, it was our prayer that it would be more than just an hour of free babysitting, but that it would be a foundation for parents and kids to experience discipleship moments within the home. That’s where the New City Catechism curriculum comes into play. This set of 52 questions and answers with Scripture is designed to lay the foundation for a Biblical lens by which we are able to view the world. On Sundays, kids will be introduced to a question during their gathering by leaders who love your children deeply and have spent the week before preparing. Throughout the following week, parents have the opportunity to use the New City Catechism tools to review and memorize the question, answer, and Scripture as a family. Each child received or will receive a pocket-sized book with all of the questions.

There is also a free app you can download with the questions, answers, Scriptures and commentary, available in the app store, called New City Catechism.

Start simple! Choose one part of each day that your family can commit to reading and discussing the question and answer for the week. Maybe it’s on the car ride to or from school. Maybe it’s at the dinner table. Maybe it’s first thing in the morning when you wake up or the last thing before going to sleep. Once you’ve established a 5-minute window within your day that you’ve successfully reviewed the question and answer, then you can add in memorizing the Scripture that goes with each question.

It is our desire to see inches filled with the glory of God by helping people behold, obey, and be transformed by the Gospel. That includes making disciples of the next generation. While we know that catechisms aren’t an end all, be all with saving power, it is our prayer that they are a tool to create Gospel conversations and foundations for families.
