A Visible Witness In The World
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:7
Hey Church! 2020 is over, and I think we can all collectively exhale after a long and turbulent year. While there were numerous aspects of 2020 that were hard, I think we can all agree that it brought clarity to our priorities as a body of believers. One of those priorities being a faithful witness where we are planted! I am quoting Jeremiah 29:7 because this verse demonstrates a similar vision of how I hope Doxa’s community will look and what we will be in the coming years—that vision starts now.
On Saturday, January 16th, we have the amazing opportunity to serve the community of Green Cove Springs by helping to revitalize their landscaping on the historic Walnut Street in the downtown area. This is good work, but it is more than that. It is an opportunity to live out the gospel witness that was charged to the church in Acts 1:8:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We are Jesus’ witnesses, so let’s make sure we are a good one! And a large part of that is caring for and about our Judea—Clay County. What better way to care for our community than serving faithfully to help revitalize it from the ground up? I could on about seeds and dirt and the analogy of the Christian life, but at the end of the day, loving and serving is what we have been called to do. I challenge you, church, to seek the welfare of our city even if you don’t specifically live in GCS and join us at the serve day on Saturday!
Serving the community is the heartbeat of Doxa Church and so is merging our Christian and non-Christian friends. Ask your ONE to serve alongside your family, it will not only challenge you to reach out to them, but I also believe they will benefit greatly from being around more Christians other than you! I am so thankful for our body, Doxa Church, and the desire we have to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10
