The Light of Christmas
I love Christmas. All the decorations, the songs, the lights, and spending time with family. Now that I have children, I love teaching them to love Christmas too. We have a nativity scene and we’ve talked about the people in it and read the story. My kids love to look at “Baby Jesus”. It makes me happy to see them getting excited and learning about why Christmas is so special to us, for more than just Santa and presents.
As humans, we are always looking for something to make us happy. We turn to things of earth to fix our lives and make things better, to bring light into our lives. Jesus came into the world to bring light to it. He came to save us from the darkness of our sin. God saw us on earth, in our sin and darkness and had so much compassion for us that He sent His Son to us as a baby. He lived a perfect life for us and took the punishment for our sins, rescuing us from the darkness so we can live in the light.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
This Christmas season, I want to remember and teach my children about the miraculous conception and birth of Jesus, but also spend time reflecting on the promise that “Baby Jesus” brought us: a promise of a perfect sacrifice for forgiveness of our sins and the promise of a Risen Savior and the promise that He will come again!
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
Luke 2:14 ESV
